Tracking the $700 Billion Bailout.
This is a great source of pure data regarding the bailout. The table below the rather understated graphic is far too large to fully take in, but it’s easy to track down any particular payout and get a general sense of how many/which institutions are receiving funds. The NYT again provides a public service by providing this data so cleanly.
The top bar graph loses almost all of the interesting individual level data. This understated graph has the nice effect of keeping the focus on the table, while still providing some simple context and overview. It still makes me want to see a much more complex visualization that allows for some of the individual data points to come through. I think I’ll have to play around with this one.
